new £15m project to create 150 jobs in peterborough

A new multimillion pound development project has been given the green light by local officials that will provide new retail opportunities and a space for relaxation for residents in Peterborough.

The £15 million Peterborough Garden Park scheme will see the construction of a new 6,500 sq m superstore, as well as a training facility for young people to learn skills like bicycle maintenance and arts and crafts, Peterborough Today reports.

Gordon Edington, chairman of Peterborough Garden Park, told the news provider: "During construction, which will create 150 jobs, there will also be three apprenticeships on offer for city youngsters.

"The buildings will be very green, recycling energy and harvesting rain water. But we also want the building to be something interesting, to get people excited by it."

He added that the training centre is something that will potentially help more young people to find employment in the coming years and could be a significant benefit to the community.

According to Eric Pickles,  secretary of state for communities and local government about centres for innovation, it is important that local communities receive innovation support in order to create more jobs and to allow underdeveloped areas to prosper.
